TiddlyLearning Blog

Saq

*intial goal of establishing credibility and generating interest has been accomplished
    • blog is averaging about 300 views/day
    • about 70 people subscribed to RSS feed & email updates
  • ready for next phase
    • talking about the UM projects and then UM in general
    • starting Monday will posts about the MORE project
      • will focus on prototype to generate interest in that
      • then will talk more about the backend
    • if anyone is interested, it would be a good idea to get involved on the blog before the UM posts start

TiddlySnip

  • a firefox extension Saq created for saving data to TW files, got a mention on LifeHacker and, also, on Linux.com.

http://lifehacker.com/software/featured-firefox-extension/grab-text-for-your-tiddlywiki-with-tiddlysnip-319754.php

  • would like to develop this more as an educational research tool
    • please give Saq any ideas you have along those lines

Community Play Books

Jessica
  • bio
    • consultant and social entrepreneur (background in science and marketing finance)
    • came to think of money as a communication media
    • has done marketing communication work with UM (UM brochure)

Play Books
  • a living document, using TW, that can extract salient points of a project very quickly and then be expanded upon and put in the public domain on an ongoing basis to aggregate the accumulated wisdom of different groups
  • a standard operating procedure that is a living document on a wiki
  • just starting on it, so no demo available yet
  • based loosely on Barcamp

Discussion
  • (Saq) - perhaps put up info on the UM wiki so we can stay up to date on what you're doing and provide feedback
  • (Eric) - putting it in a TW to make it a portable document might be a good idea

BT Open Source Day

Martin (minutes 16 - 26)

  • format was similar to a mini conference
speakers throughout the day in the theater
*both from within BT and from other companies such as Nokia
*Jeremy Ruston spoke on how to start up an open source project
several groups from British Telecom also demonstrated how they are using open source programs
*Osmosoft had a stand where they mainly demonstrated TW
TiddlyChatter - a decentralized way of collaborating

Discussion
  • (Saq) - should look into TiddlyChatter
it could possibly be a forum collaboration tool as well
uses a SR backend as opposed to RSS
I believe Jonathan was able to get it to work on the OLTC (One Laptop per Child) project

*(Eric) - I had the opportunity to work with an OLTC laptop for a few days and found that TW works reasonably well on it
    • it's Linux underneath
    • a few rough edges around getting permissions, but once the right user name is set up it works well
    • can't do embedded media
    • Will write a 'How To" guide on how to get a TW working an OLTC laptop (as suggested by Saq)

Eric
  • TiddlyWorld
will be a bi-weekly newsletter similar to a blog
      • a round up of what's happening in the Tiddly sphere
with a featured project/case study
a tips and advice column
  • also writing a series of How To guides called TiddlyTech

Martin will get a TW adaptor working with the API in about 2 weeks
