Priya has spoken with a woman in India (Tamamadu?) who works with communities who are doing crafts and trade skills

these people travel all over the world but very few speak english - they speak Tamil ( spoken in S. India)
she's very interested in providing english language courses using MORE style technology
also interested in putting up a website for selling their products online so they are looking into TW for this

Priya is currently in India and has visited at least one potential site in addition to Digital Study Hall's project where the MORE project and recorded videos would be welcome for English language courses

I've spoken at length with Yousuf, who was the director of Computer Science at Brac University
- now he is focusing on "Soft Ed" which is educational software
- he's been working closely with the Bangladesh Open University
  - they are starting up a pilot project
  - currently recording the classes through January and then will broadcast them over the Bangladesh Open Univ. network
    - a 1 1/2 hr tv program once/week
    - will start in Feb. and show recorded videos - then collect responses via SMS
    - will have facilitators in classrooms at 6 - 10 sites around the country
      - each site has 60 to 90 students
      - a 52 lesson course over 26 weeks
      - many of the students don't have experience in answering questions, so having the video of an actual classroom course whereby they can see and hear other students asking and answering questions will be very helpful for them to learn this skill also
  - for this pilot project, they will be borrowing a code from an SMS service - the person running this will make a small amount of money on the SMS traffic
    - this, as a business model, might be sufficient to actually pay for these courses
- Yousuf has invited us to come see how the project actually runs
  - Priya might be able to do this
Yousuf and the people from the Digital Study Halls project are interested in attending a workshop in the spring
- we will potentially be the organizers of this workshop
- will bring in those who are teaching the courses and the technology partners, like BT

- will be tested at a site in the Bay Area in Jan or Feb
- in Jan will try to integrate what Dimagi is doing with an existing practice management system at the clinic

ServiceLink 1 showed how documents could be scanned, put online and have individual receipts for parents who are enrolling their children in Headstart courses in Fremont in the Bay Area
- at the end of the project, there was no one at the site to support that
- ServiceLink 1 was costly for organizations to use on a daily basis

ServiceLink 2
- will show ability to have receipts accessible from anywhere in the world using a SRs token
- will show ability to demonstrate and deploy this with very little IT support
- organizations will be able to try this out at very low cost
- goal is to make it scalable & to demonstrate the infrastructure & how to connect it to what we hope will be an Open Source practice management system for small clinics and health care providers
  - if this works, will create a kiosk version appropriate for, for example, libraries to use
    - if a patron does not have a pc at home, documents can be retrieved at a library
- hoping Dimagi will be able to use ServiceLink 2 in some of their other projects as well
